At Worcester County Food Bank

Volunteers help sort and inspect donated food, assist our Partner Agency representatives to locate the items they need for their programs and, sometimes, even help out around the office.

Last year, volunteers gave over 4,300 hours – the equivalent of almost six months’ worth of work – to WCFB.

Interested in volunteering here?
See options below.

Individual Volunteers

Do you meet the following requirements to volunteer?

  • You’re at least 13-years-old (teens ages 13-15 must be accompanied and supervised by an adult);
  • If you’re interested in food sorting/distribution, you’re able to lift/carry up to 50 lbs. and you’re comfortable standing for long periods of time;
  • You’re prepared to attend a volunteer orientation in advance of your first shift;
  • You have a recurring block of time available – typically a couple of hours, once or twice per week between 8:00 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Monday-Friday (sorry, there are no one-time opportunities available for individuals at this time).

NOTE: WCFB does not accept court-appointed community service.

Once your inquiry is received, we’ll reach out to discuss available opportunities and orientation. In the meantime, if you have questions not answered here, don’t hesitate to contact us.

Group Volunteers

If you’re interested in volunteering as part of a group (i.e. with colleagues, with a club or organization), read through the following to confirm that your group meets the basic requirements to volunteer. Note: Group size is limited to eight people.

  • You’re looking for a one-time-only volunteer experience (sorry, there are no recurring shifts available for groups);
  • Your group can volunteer on a weekday afternoon (typically Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1:00-3:00 p.m.);
  • Everyone in your group is at least 13-years-old (teens ages 13-15 must be accompanied and supervised by an adult);
  • You’re comfortable standing for long periods of time;
  • You’re prepared to attend a short orientation at the very beginning of your shift;
  • You understand that, occasionally, groups are cancelled when there is limited food to sort and, that while WCFB makes every effort to reschedule groups, it may not always be possible.
